"Мальчик с козлом"… "The Boy with the Goat"...

"The Boy with the Goat"... That's the title under which I saw another lacquer box for sale on eBay with a scene from the fairy tale "The Little Humpbacked Horse". I have collected quite a respectable collection of lacquer boxes featuring the little horse. There are pieces from Mstera, Kholui, Fedoskino, and the well-known Palekh. There are works of astounding craftsmanship...

But there are also a few nameless ones, which somehow caught my attention. In this case, it's the title of the box for sale. The person listing it had no idea what this creature was and simply dubbed our humpbacked horse a goat...

"Мальчик с козлом"...Под таким названием увидела я в продаже на eBay очередную лаковую коробочку с сюжетом из сказки "Конёк-Горбунок". У меня собралась довольно приличная коллекции лаковых шкатулок с коньками. Это Мстёра, Холуй, Федоскино, и так хорошо знакомый всем, Палех. Есть работы потрясающего мастерства...

Но есть несколько безымянных, чем-то привлекших мое внимание. В данном случае - название продаваемой шкатулочки. Человек, продававший её, понятия не имел, что это за зверушка такая, и окрестил нашего конька-горбунка просто козлом...
