Конёк-Горбунок в гостях у братьев-болгар. "THE LITTLE HUMPBACKED HORSE" VISITS BULGARIAN BROTHERS

Снова праздник в Русском центре! После двухгодичного затишья, связанного с «ковидным» карантином, впервые в его стенах — фестиваль. Руководство Русского Центра не бездействовало эти годы — обновлена сцена, главный зал, заканчивается реновация помещения бара. Русский Центр преображается на глазах! И вот на  обновленной сцене, снова танцоры и музыканты. 

Здесь прошел Интернациональный Фестиваль Болгарского и Славянского наследия, посвященный болгарским просветителям — святым братьям Кириллу и Мефодию — «учителям Словенским» или «Апостолами славян», создавшим первую славянскую азбуку, которой мы пользуемся по сей день. 24 мая 863 года в городе Плиске (прежняя столица Болгарии), братья Кирилл и Мефодий огласили изобретение славянского алфавита. Азбука получила свое название от имени младшего из братьев — кириллица. Пользуясь созданной азбукой, братья принесли христианское просвещение славянским народам на их родном языке. 

Икона с изображением этих святых, объединяющая все славянские народы, перед которой был совершен молебен, стояла на сцене в течение всего празднования.  

Мы с мамой оказались на этом фестивале волею судьбы. 4 июня, когда  христиане всего мира отмечали День Святой Троицы, мы решили отпраздновать его  в Храме Казанской Иконы Божией Матери в Сан Франциско, как прежде, в «доковидный» период, среди старых друзей. К нашему удивлению, состав паствы за эти годы изменился, кто-то покинул этот мир навсегда, кто-то переехал в другие штаты… Поле службы мы оказались за столом с болгарами, с которыми довольно скоро нашли общий язык и подружились. Среди них были организаторы этого фестиваля — Ева Роуз, Рада Филева и Мария Кряскова. Узнав, что мы с мамой являемся прямыми потомками П.П. Ершова, автора сказки «Конек-Горбунок», которую, оказалось, в Болгарии все знают с детства, и у нас имеется довольно большая коллекция изданий сказки на разных языках, нас пригласили принять участие  в предстоящем фестивале. Нам выделили стол, на котором расположились издания «Конька-Горбунка» на разных языках, главным образом — на славянских, и иллюстрации к сказке, выполненные разными художниками в разные годы. Рядом мы разместили стенд с информацией на английском языке о Ершове и его сказке, созданный в Центральной библиотеке Сан-Франциско к 200-летнему юбилею автора сказки.

Праздник удался на славу! Проводился конкурс талантов — дети танцевали народные танцы, пели, читали стихи. Выступила замечательная пара юных исполнителей бальных танцев, со сцены звучала фортепианная музыка, пение под гитару. Приглашенная  на фестиваль из Техаса болгарская писательница, Антонина Дуриданова  презентовала свою книгу «Бегство из-за железного занавеса», а Марина Новакова прочла монолог «После пересечения океана».

Артисты, представляющие танцы и песни славянских культур, чередовались на сцене. Были исполнены народные мелодии и танцы из разных регионов Болгарии, Польши, Украины и России. «Кедры», известная фольклорная группа из Сан-Хосе, которая пользуется популярностью в Сан-Франциско и Кремниевой Долине, представляла Россию.

Гостям фестиваля были предложены блюда болгарской кухни. Болгарские повара оказались просто замечательными! Решила поблагодарить их за вкусную еду на их родном языке. Оказалось, что «спасибо» по-болгарски очень созвучно словам благодарности на русском, только слегка изменена последняя буква: вместо «благодарю», произносится «благодаря».

Хочу повторить это слово в адрес моих новых болгарских друзей, которые пригласили нас с мамой и «Коньками-Горбунками» на этот замечательный фестиваль славянского алфавита и культуры! И надо отметить, мы с нашими конёчками-горбуночками гармонично вписались в тему фестиваля. Гости проявляли живой интерес к изданиям «Конька-Горбунка», который так хорошо знаком им с детства.

На столе расположились издания сказки «Конёк-Горбунок» на словенском, хорватском, русинском, польском языках и  на украинской «мове». Жаль, что ни одного издания на чешском языке в коллекции еще нет, а ведь самый первый перевод на иностранный язык, осуществленный еще в 1845 году, — это именно перевод на чешское наречие: «Konik hrbounek’ Wzedalana dle P. Jersowa». Это издание 1845 года было представлено макетом, сделанным по фотографии, присланной директором Пражской библиотеки Лукашом Бабкой. Интерес вызвали и довольно экзотические издания –«коньки» на японском, китайском, иврите. 

 То, что каждый  русский, даже выросший не в России, а в других странах Европы, в Азии, в Австралии, знает сказку П.П. Ершова, — это факт, а вот то, что болгары разных поколений помнят эту сказку, кто на русском, кто — на болгарском, оказалось для нас с мамой (Зеей Кузьменко, правнучкой писателя) приятным сюрпризом. Многие выразили интерес к предстоящему юбилею сказки «Конек-Горбунок», которое запланировано на будущий год.

Воистину пророческими стали слова автора сказки, Петра Павловича Ершова, сказанные им по выходе четвертого издания в 1856 году, в письме к однокурснику: «…Конек мой снова поскакал по всему русскому царству… Заслышав, тому уже 22 года, похвалу себе от таких людей, как Пушкин, Жуковский и Плетнев, он… тешит люд честной, старых и малых, будет тешить их, пока русское слово будет находить отголосок в русской душе, т. е. до скончания века». Скоро «Коньку-Горбунку» 190 лет, а он всё скачет и скачет по свету, подтверждая слова автора сказки, и не только по «русскому царству», но и по всему миру.

Еще раз говорю «Благодарю!» организаторам этого фестиваля за предоставленную  возможность напомнить о Петре Павловиче Ершове и его бессмертной сказке. Также благодарю Центральную библиотеку Сан-Франциско, создавшую замечательные стенды к выставке, посвященной 200-летнему юбилею П.П. Ершова, и передавшей эти стенды Фонду его имени в вечное пользование. Они нам пригодятся еще не раз.

Обращаюсь ко всем читателям с просьбой помочь в приобретении изданий сказки «Конёк-Горбунок» на разных языках. В нашей коллекции еще нет болгарских, чешских, белорусских, венгерских, армянских и других изданий, а так хочется к 190-летнему юбилею собрать и представить всем для обозрения самую полную коллекцию изданий сказки.

A celebration is happening again in the Russian Center! After a two-year lull due to the COVID-related lockdown, the Center is hosting a festival for the first time. The leadership of the Russian Center has not been idle during these years - the stage has been updated, the main hall renovated, and the bar area is nearing the completion of its renovation. The Russian Center is transforming before our eyes! And here on the updated stage, dancers and musicians are performing again.

The venue hosted the International Festival of Bulgarian and Slavic Heritage, dedicated to the Bulgarian enlighteners - the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius - the "Teachers of the Slavs" or the "Apostles of the Slavs", who created the first Slavic alphabet that we still use today. On May 24, 863, in the city of Pliska (the former capital of Bulgaria), the brothers Cyril and Methodius announced the invention of the Slavic alphabet. The alphabet was named after the younger of the two brothers - Cyrillic. Using this alphabet, the brothers brought Christian enlightenment to the Slavic peoples in their native language.

An icon depicting these saints, uniting all Slavic nations, stood on the stage throughout the celebration, before which a prayer service was held.

My mother and I found ourselves at this festival by chance. On June 4, when Christians all over the world celebrated Holy Trinity Day, we decided to celebrate it in the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church in San Francisco, as before, in the "pre-Covid" period, among old friends. To our surprise, the congregation had changed over the years, some had left this world forever, some had moved to other states... After the service, we found ourselves at a table with Bulgarians, with whom we soon found a common language and became friends. Among them were the organizers of this festival - Eva Rose, Rada Fileva, and Maria Kryaskova. Having learned that my mother and I are direct descendants of P.P. Yershov, the author of the fairy tale "The Little Humpbacked Horse", which, it turned out, everyone in Bulgaria knows from childhood, and that we have quite a large collection of editions of the fairy tale in different languages, we were invited to participate in the upcoming festival.

We were assigned a table where we displayed editions of "The Little Humpbacked Horse" in various languages, primarily Slavic, and illustrations for the fairy tale created by different artists over the years. Beside it, we positioned a display with information in English about Yershov and his fairy tale, which was prepared by the San Francisco Central Library for the 200th anniversary of the fairy tale's author.

The celebration was a huge success! There was a talent show where children performed folk dances, sang songs, and recited poetry. A pair of remarkable young ballroom dancers gave a performance, and the event was filled with the sounds of piano music and guitar singing from the stage. The Bulgarian author Antonina Duridanova, who was invited to the festival from Texas, presented her book "Escape from Behind the Iron Curtain," and Marina Novakova performed the monologue "After Crossing the Ocean."

Artists representing Slavic dance and song alternated on stage. Folk melodies and dances from various regions of Bulgaria, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia were performed. Russia was represented by "Cedars," a popular folk group from San Jose, known in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

Festival guests were offered Bulgarian cuisine. The Bulgarian chefs turned out to be simply amazing! I decided to thank them for the delicious food in their native language. It turns out that "thank you" in Bulgarian is very similar to the words of gratitude in Russian, only the last letter is slightly changed: instead of "blagodaryu," it is pronounced "blagodarya."

I want to repeat this word to my new Bulgarian friends who invited my mother and me and our "Little Humpbacked Horses" to this wonderful festival of the Slavic alphabet and culture! And I must note, we and our little humpbacked horses fit harmoniously into the theme of the festival. Guests showed a lively interest in the editions of "The Little Humpbacked Horse," which is so familiar to them from childhood.

On the table were editions of "The Little Humpbacked Horse" in Slovenian, Croatian, Rusyn, Polish, and Ukrainian. It's a pity that there is not a single Czech edition in the collection yet, even though the very first translation into a foreign language, made in 1845, was a translation into Czech: "Konik Hrbounek’ Wzedalana dle P. Jersowa". This 1845 edition was represented by a model made from a photograph sent by Lukas Babka, the director of the Prague Library. Editions in Japanese, Chinese, and Hebrew, which seemed rather exotic, also sparked interest.

The fact that every Russian, even those not raised in Russia, but in other countries of Europe, Asia, and Australia, knows the fairy tale by P.P. Yershov, is a given. But the fact that Bulgarians of various generations remember this fairy tale, some in Russian, some in Bulgarian, was a pleasant surprise for my mother (Zeya Kuzmenko, the great-granddaughter of the author) and me. Many expressed interest in the upcoming anniversary of "The Little Humpbacked Horse," planned for next year.

Truly prophetic were the words of the author of the fairy tale, Pyotr Pavlovich Yershov, said by him after the release of the fourth edition in 1856, in a letter to a classmate: "...My Horse has once again galloped all over the Russian kingdom... Having heard praise from such people as Pushkin, Zhukovsky, and Pletnev 22 years ago, he... amuses honest people, old and young, will amuse them as long as the Russian word finds an echo in the Russian soul, i.e., until the end of the century." "The Little Humpbacked Horse" is almost 190 years old, and it still gallops around the world, confirming the words of the author of the fairy tale, and not only throughout the "Russian kingdom," but all over the world.

Once again, I say "Thank you!" to the organizers of this festival for giving me the opportunity to remind people about Pyotr Pavlovich Yershov and his immortal fairy tale. I also thank the San Francisco Central Library for creating wonderful exhibition stands for the 200th anniversary of P.P. Yershov, and for transferring these stands to the Fund in his name for permanent use. They will come in handy more than once.

I appeal to all readers to help in acquiring editions of "The Little Humpbacked Horse" in different languages. Our collection still lacks Bulgarian, Czech, Belarusian, Hungarian, Armenian, and other editions, and we would very much like to collect and present the most complete collection of editions for the 190th anniversary
